QAP Requirements & Eligibility
The Tennessee Quality Assurance Program (QAP) is a voluntary initiative administered by the Tennessee Farm Winegrowers Alliance that helps Tennessee wineries offset the cost of laboratory analysis and competition entries. Wines that meet established quality benchmarks earn an official designation that wineries can display on bottles and use in marketing materials.
The program is open to wineries operating in West, Middle and East Tennessee. Eligible wines must be blended, cellared, produced, vinted, made or prepared in accordance with TTB regulations and bottled or packed by a Tennessee winery. Wines that are only bottled in Tennessee, or bottled outside the state, are not eligible for participation.
Participating wineries may receive up to $195 per wine (SKU) for eligible competition fees and chemistry analysis, with reimbursement available for up to 15 SKUs per winery per year and a maximum annual reimbursement of $3,000 per winery. Membership in the Tennessee Farm Winegrowers Alliance is encouraged but not required to apply for reimbursement through the program.
Both commercial lab and self-certified lab tests are accepted.
To qualify for the official QAP label, wines must earn a score of 85 points or higher from approved rating panels or receive a medal in an approved wine competition.
This is a first come, first served program and funding is limited and cannot be guaranteed.
How to participate
1. Enter an approved competition
Choose a competition from the list below and submit your wine on the competition’s standard entry path.
2. Run the required chemistry analysis
Provide the following chemistry analysis for each wine:
- Malic Acid Content
- pH (mg/100mls)
- Free SO₂ and Total SO₂
- Titratable Acidity (g/L)
- Volatile Acidity (g/100mls)
- Alcohol by Volume (%)
- Residual Sugar (%)
3. Submit reimbursement request
Complete the QAP Reimbursement Form by uploading the competition entry confirmation, the lab report and the receipts that document your costs. Pay close attention to the dates listed in the upload instructions.
4. Submit results (if applicable)
If your wine receives a medal in an approved competition or scores 85 points or higher by approved rating panels, submit the result for verification.
Once approved, the wine is eligible to carry the QAP designation on its recognized vintage.

Using the QAP designation
Wines that earn the designation may display the official Tennessee QAP logo on the recognized vintage and reference the designation in tasting room signage, shelf talkers, websites, social posts and sales materials. The designation applies to the vintage that received the qualifying medal or score, not to the brand or label as a whole.
Logo files, usage guidelines and sample shelf talkers are available upon request. Members can also request co-marketing support through TFWA when a designated wine is launched, repackaged or featured at a festival.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to wait for competition results before requesting reimbursement?
No. As of the 2025 update, reimbursement can be requested as soon as the wine is entered in an approved competition. Results are submitted later, only if the wine qualifies for the QAP designation.
What if my wine does not medal or score 85 points?
Reimbursement still applies for chemistry analysis and competition entry costs, within the program limits. Only the QAP designation requires a qualifying medal or score.
Can I use the QAP logo on a different vintage of the same wine?
No. The designation applies to the specific vintage that earned the qualifying medal or score.
